Promotional Methods

Promotional Methods
·         Promotion for a new magazine is one of the most important factors because obviously the magazine wants to get as many people to buy and read their magazine as possible. So, in order for them to do this, they must promote it well.

·         When first releasing my magazine I would give out some free copies in places my target audience would typically be. This is a good idea because people may not want to spend their money on a magazine they have never read before. In the back of the magazine, I would put in a piece of paper which works as a questionnaire to get the public’s views on the magazines which then I could adapt for the issues to come.

·         Once my magazine has released a few issues, ne way in which I would promote my magazine is something which I have never seen done before however I think it would work very well. I would stand in popular places in which my target audience would visit, e.g.- festivals and gigs, and I would hand out little snipets of my magazine so the reader would get a feel of what would be included which would then hopefully steer them into buying the complete magazine.

·         For every issue, I would have more than 1 version of the front cover. For example, I would have 2 main features for every magazine, both of which having a separate front cover and then the reader could chose for themselves which cover they would prefer- or some avid collectors may even buy both. One magazine did this once with The Spice Girls with 5 different covers for each spice. This could then turn into a bit of a competition where in the next issue, it would have the results of which cover sold the most copies. Again, one way in which it would create returning customers.

·         Another way in which I would promote my magazine is through the use of billboards in places that my target audience would be. These would be good because they are very big and always catch your eye. I know that if I’m walking down the high street or in the car and I see a billboard, I always look at it and if it’s something that interests me, I read on. So, the billboards would have to look very attractive and eye catching in order to do it justice. If on the billboards it is musicians that are well known, then it will work very effectively.
·         Promotion of films, magazines, tv, music now-a-days is done through the use of new media. So, this would be a big way that I would promote my magazine. Via social networking such as twitter and facebook, and advertisements on websites. Also, by using apps and downloads.
·         Promoting the magazine once it’s released some issues would be slightly easier because I could include freebies and competitions which you can win great prizes. This would draw in the readers. The freebies could include unheard tracks, demo CDs and posters.
